Summary Overview of what you will learn in this course

In the Certificate 4 in Bookkeeping qualification, you will learn the following:
  • Basic & intermediate accounting (aka Accounting Foundations)
  • Accounting for charities and partnerships
  • Intermediate Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Financial services sector calculations
  • Using MYOB (to an advanced level) to learn how to setup, operate and maintain all facets (payable, receivable, inventory, etc) of a business accounting system operates in a business including BAS, IAS, year end journal entries, etc.
  • Using MYOB Payroll (to an advanced level) to learn how to setup, operate and maintain a payroll system including filling out PAYGW IAS, paying payroll liabilities, etc
  • Business tax requirements (BAS, GST, IAS, FBT, Payroll tax, etc.) including how to fill out a BAS and IAS form manually
  • Current financial services sector laws and regulations
  • Ethics & sustainability
  • Bookkeeping policies and procedures

Minimum Entry Requirements

As we assume that you have no knowledge of these subjects, there are no pre-requisites for this course/qualification.

Career Opportunities and articulation

Career opportunities include bookkeeper, BAS agent, MYOB operator (or Xero or Quickbook operator as course is about computer accounting systems; MYOB just happens to be the teaching software); payroll officer, payable officer, receivable officer, accounts clerk and accounts manager.

Keep in mind the following:

  • This course/qualification is the minimum educational qualifications to become a registered BAS agent
  • Even though there are now no pre-requisites for the Diploma in Accounting, this Cert 4 qualification can be considered an entry level course for those doing the Diploma (FNS50210) or Advanced Diploma (FNS60210) in Accounting.


  • Full time (6 months or 18 teaching weeks or 1 semester)
  • Part-time (12 months or 36 teaching weeks or 2 semesters)


  • Full time: 3 Full day (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday) with the option of a drop in class on a Friday.
